Broadcast with DSLR Camera

Broadcast on Chaturbate using your DLSR camera and OBS.   To get the best quality video with your DSLR camera we suggest using a capture card.   Below are instructions for 2 specific capture cards which have been tested by Chaturbate for compatibility. 

Capture Cards tested by Chaturbate:

BlackMagic UltraStudio Mini Recorder - Thunderbolt (Mac only)

BlackMagic Intensity Shuttle (Windows or Mac, USB 3.0 port required)

* tested on Nikon D3400

BlackMagic Mini Recorder Setup

Equipment needed:

  • Thunderbolt cable
  • DSLR Camera with HDMI out
  • BlackMagic Studio Mini Recorder
  • Mini-HDMI to HDMI cable 
  • OBS Studio
  1.  Install the Desktop Video software from the BlackMagic website or on SD card that comes with device:
  2.  Connect the DLSR camera to the Mini Recorder with HDMI-Mini to HDMI cable.
  3. Connect the Mini Recorder to Mac with Thunderbolt cable.
  4. Open the Blackmagic Desktop Video Setup app (App icon will be in System Preferences menu).
  5. The Mini Recorder should show as connected.  Select the menu icon in the center of the screen.

  6. Select "HDMI" as the input and save.
  7. In OBS Studio, in the Sources section add “Video Capture Device"
  8. Select “Blackmagic UltraStudio Mini Recorder” from the device list.
  9. Select the Live View mode on your camera. On Nikon cameras this is the button on camera body.


BlackMagic Intensity Shuttle (USB 3.0) on Windows 10

Equipment needed:
  • BlackMagic Intensity Shuttle
  • Windows, Mac or Linux computer with USB 3.0
  • HDMI-Mini to HDMI cable
  • USB 3.0 A to B cable
  • OBS Studio
  1. Connect the DLSR camera to the Intensity Shuttle with the HDMI-Mini to HDMI cable.  (The Intensity Shuttle also has analog video and audio inputs available)
  2. Connect the Intensity Shuttle to your computer using the Superspeed USB 3.0 A to B cable.  (USB 3.0 is required).
  3. Set your DSLR camera to Live Mode.
  4. In the OBS “Sources” menu the “Blackmagic Device” should be listed as an option. If “Blackmagic Device” is not in the OBS sources, install the drivers from the SD card that came with the recorder or download from
  5. For Device select "Intensity Shuttle."
  6. For Mode select “Auto" if available or 1080i59.94 for most newer DSLR cameras.
