A moderator is a broadcaster's appointed “assistant” that helps to maintain a positive chatroom environment. Moderators have the ability to silence users in chat for a period of 6 hours.
All mods have a red username in chat and are shown at the top of the "Users" list. One of the most important duties of a mod is to monitor a broadcaster’s chat log during the broadcast.
If you are a moderator, you can silence users by:
- Clicking the user’s username and selecting “Silence user for 6 hours”
- Clicking the “USERS” tab, finding the username and selecting “Silence user for 6 hours”
- A confirmation box will open up. Select “yes” and you will have silenced that particular user.
Other duties include:
- encouraging users to tip
- thanking viewers that tip broadcasters
- letting viewers know about the broadcaster’s goal
- answering repetitive questions from viewers
If you are appointed as a mod, one of the most important things to remember is that you do not want to come off as dominating. Try and remember that the show is fully focused on the broadcaster, and you are there as a favor to the broadcaster. Mod assignments can be temporary.
Be sure to respect all viewers in a broadcasters chat room to maintain a fun environment!
