Broadcasters can use Chaturbate’s in-browser broadcaster or external encoder software such as Open Broadcaster Software (OBS). Setting up OBS is a little extra work; however, it will give you greater control over the quality of your broadcasts. Either way, in order to have a high quality stream, you will need a strong internet connection and a high performance computer.
Upload Bandwidth
We recommended a minimum of 20 Megabits per second (Mbps) download and 5 Mbps upload speed for standard quality. To stream HD, you will need 10 Mbps or more of upload bandwidth. We recommend testing your internet speeds on Chaturbate before broadcasting by using Chaturbate’s servers, visit https://speedtest.net.
Once you know your upload speed, you can select a resolution that is appropriate.
Make the most of your internet connection by following these tips:
- Use a hardwired Ethernet cable connection instead of WiFi.
- If you are using WiFi, try to be as close to the wireless router as possible.
- Check to make sure you and others on your network are not using bandwidth-heavy applications while you are streaming.
In-Browser Broadcaster
The in-browser broadcaster on Chaturbate is a great way to quickly start streaming. Select your web cam, microphone, and resolution (based on your speed test results), and hit “Start Broadcasting.”
Setting Up Open Broadcaster Software (OBS)
If you’re willing to do the additional setup, OBS allows you to customize your stream and gives you more flexibility with using overlays and animations.
To get started with OBS, read the How do I setup OBS? guide.
